Miss Butterfly

Very, very beautiful and lively in May,
She appeared dressed in yellow one day.
Her dress was coloured like a turmeric flesh,
With white splashes shaped as a mulberry fresh.

She halts and flows, and she sits and sighs,
Here and there, but never away from my eyes.
At all the places she sat, there flourished a flower,
Roamed free in my garden to spread a divine power.

Full of life, she appeared very gay,
One look at her and forget what to say.
Wondered in two minds, if I can go closer,
Or like a figment spirit, shall I just pursue her.

Blue Rock Pigeons
Tell me, What's in your heart?
Tell me, Why were we apart?

Tell me, What yet haven't you told?
Tell me, Why you not met me before?

Tell me the time, Tell me the date.
If you can tell me, Very well tell my fate.

Gandhigiri and Dadagiri

Imagine all living life in peace and prosperity
"That is dadagiri" - I said to myself as I watched a rooster snatching food from young roosters in backyard of the cottage of a poor tribal in Mayurbhanj, Orissa. While waiting for farmers to join for a public meeting I was watching the ducks and roosters play. The dadagiri act of the matured rooster urged me to think.

The young roosters and hens accepted the might of the matured rooster and eventually surrendered. He would capture the grains of rice, bhel and everything else thrown towards the flock and the young and weak roosters would feed on his leftover. Albeit the matured rooster eats more and grows stronger, while the young weak roosters eat less and weaken further. This is how a cycle of suffering was created.

Keeping a secret

'Please don't tell this to anybody else' - it's frequent request to keep a secret. Usually, it is discovered that the secret is out! Now, you know what I am talking about. Why is it hard to keep a secret? Are secrets worth keeping? How and why?

Studies show that secrets are spilled out usually within an hour. It is said that women find it harder to resist spilling a secret than men. However, studies have also found men of this millennium to be competing with women on this issue.

The unfortunate silence of the lambs

Unhappy. Disappointed. I have been hit by the unfortunate silence of the lambs.

This post has perhaps little to do with the Oscar winning 'The Silence of the Lambs' starring Jodie Foster. It is about a personal incident demonstrating the silence of the lambs.

Pavagadh - Revisiting history

On the hills of Panchmahals district of Gujarat, among the several shakti-peeth (seats to worship shakti) is the one - Pavagadh. Nestled among the serene, warm and green hills, Pavagadh is a destination for both religious and nature enthusiasts.

Thousands of people visit Pavagadh on full-moon days

An exciting family trip to Pavagadh on a full-moon day was crowded, noisy and adventurous. During the month of Chaitra (the first month of Hindi calendar), not all private vehicles are permitted to ride-up the hills. One can take the public transport buses from the foot of the hills until the top. Thereafter, one can take rope-way coaches to reach close to the hill-shrine. Walking some hundred yards further would take the visitor to the stairs of the temple. A hundred more stairs and the Mother Goddess appears.

Let's open-source it!

"The concept of open-source software is not new, and with huge, successful projects such as UbuntuAndroidand other Linux-related OS's and apps, I think we can safely say it is a proven model for creating and maintaining high-quality software. But let's say you're a novice developer, just getting started as a coder and thinking about whether or not this open-source thing is worth your time and effort.

I'm here to show you why you should seriously consider giving away your time and effort for free, on a regular basis." by Erez Zukerman.

I use several open source applications and I am confident that you too do so. When I was new to this concept, I used to wonder why do these guys (read developers) toil on open source projects and make available to the users mostly for FREE? Do they make any money out of this work? Is it mere fun for them? Well, the answers to all these questions are in part 'Yes' and in part 'No'.

Don't leave me once you love

In the rains, on my palm

Please do not leave me if I loose a dime.
Please do not leave me if I change with time.

Please do not leave me if troubles reach horizon.
Please do not leave me if trust touches poison.

Please do not leave me if something you hear.
Please do not leave me if something you fear.

One state, many worlds

“Karnataka – One state, many worlds” is the tagline of state tourism department. The truth of this statement can be peeled when one tours the state – city after city – like we did in the spring of 2012. The state offers excitement to food lovers, travelers, enthusiasts of historical architecture and sociologists. In this blog, I would share my experiences over the places I visited, food I enjoyed and memories that I carried.
Our journey started from Bangalore – the capital city where one finds more trees than people. Trees are surprisingly green and prosperous. Some are very old which have witnessed the changing face of the city. Oh, I missed to watch the movie Parijatha!

shooting in motion

It is not easy to shoot while on move, particularly because you miss more shots than you take! It is comparable to digging the Earth, you get more rocks than gold! After a long time, recently I  had a journey where I was enthusiastic enough to keep shooting while traveling.

One of the challenge that comes in shooting while moving is to be alert all the times with the camera powered on! With a camera which is slow to power on will also make you slow on luck to capture what you want. In this blog I will share 10 tips for my readers to shoot while you move.

She forgets, she is a mother...

It was just another train journey. The movement of train, the noises of people, the typical ambiance and the familiar crowd - none of them were strange to me. However, I wished that the train moved faster, the people were easy with their gossips, the environment smelled better and the available space could accommodate all passengers comfortably...
Dear Parents, please never leave us alone

I noticed the people, old and young, seated around me. Some young girls giggling, some old men thinking and some mid-aged disagreeing with each other. Some were cautious of their luggage, others were glossed on their mobile screens, and yet others were able to strike a conversation, perhaps to kill time. Here, I remember an aphorism: "Do not waste time, you do not even know how much you have".

Ancient Wisdom: Thirukural

Saint Thiruvalluvar
The deeper you dig, greater the spring;
The more you learn, greater the knowledge.

Not only this but all the couplets from Thirukural are equally meaningful and motivating.  A book regarded holy by many was written on palm leaves in sometime during the 2nd century BC.

Blessed are those people who translated the holy book in English and made public here and here.

Why I love Band Back Together

Extract: "Have you ever had a personal story you wanted to tell but didn't feel comfortable doing so on your own blog? That's certainly been the case for me.

I came across Band Back Together earlier this year. I thought it was a fabulous concept and that it filled a void in the blogosphere. In a nutshell, it's a site where you can post your own difficult or emotional stories and feel safe and supported."

Time-bound: in Ahmadabad

Ahmadabad is the largest city of a western province Gujarat in India. It should not be an exaggeration if I say that Diwali is the most important festival in this part on the world. The business community celebrates a week long (or even longer!) holiday post Diwali. That means, most shops don’t open for a week or so. The streets look deserted even during the day. And that also means that if someone like me who is new to the city is going there post Diwali, it is a challenge to locate someone to ask directions! My time-bound visit to the city last weekend left me with two memorable experiences that exposed hidden traits of humanity to me.

O man, Wake yourself up

Wake yourself up
What you see in winds blow?
In autumn trees, in water's flow??
What you find in morning dew?
In the burning Sun, in cool Moon glow''

Sentence spacing - Choose One or Two?

I am making it loud that I put a single space after a period or at the beginning of a sentence. Recently, I had to fall for a centuries-old practice of putting two spaces after a period to satisfy 'a few literally important' people. I did all the desk research that I could do to substantiate my practice. I feel ashamed that for a few seconds I even doubted myself to be wrong. Well, now the clouds have vanished and besides all the support for my practice, I found one really interesting article advocating 'single spacing', or say advocating the TRUTH. This article literally pulled me into laughter. I hope you too get lucky to be entertained. You are encouraged to read, whether are you a single or a double spacer.

Space Invaders

Why you should never, ever use two spaces after a period.

Can I let you in on a secret? Typing two spaces after a period is totally, completely, utterly, and inarguably wrong.

Women Empowerment: a sexual hypocrisy

I apprehend if I have the expertise to discuss the issues mostly fit for the feminist, yet it is an attempt to summarize my experiences and contribute to the existing views. Women Empowerment as the term per se, has been hammering the Indian minds from the days of our struggle for freedom. Not to rule out that there have been initiatives during all stages of Indian History to establish the deserving position of women in the society, but changes gained velocity during (and after) the war of independence from the British. The movement is mostly remembered for the likes of Sarojini Naidu, Gandhi and Raja Ram Mohan Roy. That is the history...

Besides the History, the Culture makes India one of the few countries where a woman is worshiped in various forms and st-ages. When this part of the world was celebrating Christmas 2010, I was watching a program on DD Punjabi where Dr. Tandon(if I read the script correct), a lady of repute was talking about the current issues related to women such as dowry, female infanticide, foeticide, sex ratio, female illiteracy and so on. I quickly recalled a great movie Matrubhoomi which left fresh memories in my mind. The movie shows the future of several districts of India if the History and the Culture does not improve.
